The first chapter of the history of The University of Aarhus began with the inauguration of "University Studies in Jutland" in the ballroom of Aarhus Technical School on 11 th September 1928, and the university is celebrating its 75 th Anniversary in 2003. The University of Aarhus Anniversary Foundation will award five prizes for Academic work. One of the award winners will give a lecture, and a reception will be held afterwards.

The University of Aarhus Research Foundation will award Ph.D. prizes for the first time. The foundation will also present its annual report for 2002 at this event, and a reception will be held afterwards.

Open house for the city:
To mark the occasion of its 75 th Anniversary, the University of Aarhus will open its doors to the people of the city on Sunday 7 th September, from 1 pm to 5 pm . During these four hours, the general public will be offered a number of activities, including visits to laboratories, the opportunity to hear lectures, take part in guided tours, see various performances and to meet members of staff of the university in all areas. The activities will take place at a number of locations in the University Park and many of these will provide opportunities for active participation. For example, it will be possible to have the efficiency of your lungs and the carbon-monoxide levels in your blood tested, and, at another location, you will be able to pit your knowledge in a quiz on dialects.
Two of the university refectories will be open, and there is free admission to the three museums within the University Park, that is the Steno Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Ancient Art, as well as the university greenhouses in the Botanical Gardens.Guided tours around University Park's fine architecture will be arranged, and special guided tours telling about Per Kirkeby's 500 m² ceiling painting in the new Lecture Theatre Building will be available. In the university's Great Hall, the Music Conservatory of Jutland will present their anniversary gift to the university in the form of a concert.

8.30 am to 11 am: Free coffee, tea and Danish pastries for all staff and students in the canteens to celebrate the University's 75th birthday.
12 noon to 5 pm: Sports Day in the University Park - organised by the University Sports Club (AUS). To celebrate this special day the Rector has cancelled teaching from 12 noon onwards. There will be an information stand, and plenty of activities in and around a large marquee outside the Mathematics Canteen and elsewhere in the Park.
Entrance: students and staff. Please register first - this can be done in most of the large canteens on 4, 5 and 8 September at 12-2 pm, or in the AUS office by Tuesday 9 September at the latest.
The Annual Party in the Great Hall, followed by a reception in the Museum of Ancient Art and lobby (vandrehal). The day will culminate with dinner at Stakladen refectory and the marquee, after which Jesper Thilo, Ann Farholt and others will provide the music for dancing.

4,000 free football tickets
AGF Kontraktfodbold are making 4,000 free tickets available to the University for their match against Herfølge at Århus Stadium on Sunday 14 September at 3 pm.
The tickets will be sent to the faculties, who will inform the departments how they are to be allocated to each subject. This will be done from Monday 8 September according to instructions issued by each faculty.
